Madrid, 9 March 2023.
Banco Santander has hit a new milestone in its decades-long support of education in the countries where it operates. It has awarded aid to more than 1,050,000 university students, professionals, startups and SMEs since it began investing in higher education some 25 years ago through Santander Universities, an excellent initiative that sets it apart from other financial institutions in the world.
Together with Santander Universities, Banco Santander awarded over 265,000 grants last year, totalling 100 million euros. It is also raising its target to help people improve their job prospects.
Banco Santander believes that businesses are vital in transforming our society, and education and training are the best way to tackle the major challenges of today and tomorrow.
Each year, Becas Santander runs education and employability programmes that award student grants and free upskilling or reskilling courses in high-impact areas, such as technology, languages, research and sustainability.
The bank also runs programmes through Santander X to support startups, scaleups, micro-entrepreneurs and SMEs in every stage of building a business, with special training, networking with customers, investors and talent, and other resources they need to grow and prosper.
