Daniel Barriuso

Senior Executive Vice President, Global Head of Retail & Commercial Banking and Chief Transformation Officer

Daniel Barriuso is a Senior Executive Vice-President of Banco Santander and Global Head of Santander Retail & Commercial Banking. He joined Santander in 2017, and before being appointed to his current role he was Santander’s Group Chief Transformation Officer. Prior to that, he was Head of Cyber Security and Fraud Prevention globally.

Daniel has over 29 years of experience across banking, energy, and technology sectors. He began his career as software engineer and artificial intelligence researcher. Before joining Santander, Daniel was based in London and held various executive positions at BP, Credit Suisse and ABN AMRO.

He is board member of Santander Mexico, Openbank, Santander Consumer Finance and ODS, and former Chairman of Lynx Financial Tech and FS-ISAC Europe.

Daniel has a degree in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), was visiting professor at the UPM / ALI post-graduate master degree for a decade and was awarded with the SC Magazine Europe Award for CISO of the year.
