The fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt lives and economies across the globe. Without our normal social interactions and access to the businesses and institutions we depend on, it’s easy to feel helpless.

To counteract that feeling and to help find real relief in this challenging time, the European Commission is hosting #EUvsVirus, a pan-European hackathon to generate innovative solutions for coronavirus-related challenges. The hackathon will take place virtually April 24-26, 2020.

Santander has joined as a sponsor of the hackathon, focusing our efforts on Business Continuity, one of the five challenge domains of the hackathon (the others are Health & Life, Social & Political Cohesion, Remote Working & Education and Digital Finance—along with an open-ended Other category).

Within the Business Continuity category, we’ll help address the set of problems that businesses, especially startups and small/medium enterprises (SMEs), are facing to stay afloat, collaborate effectively and develop new, more resilient business models.

In addition to providing technology, mentoring, specific challenges to hack against and prize sponsorship for the top projects, Santander is also committed to spreading the word about the hackathon throughout our developer communities and entire ecosystem. #EUvsVirus is an opportunity for developers, designers, creative minds and problem-solvers of all kinds to help find real-world solutions throughout the EU and beyond.

We are truly all in this together. Together, let’s take advantage of the #EUvsVirus hackathon to build on promising solutions and create entirely new approaches that will help us all weather this pandemic storm—and emerge healthy as individuals, businesses and civil society.
