The local sponsorships of various mobility alternatives enable us to support the initiatives that, like us, are committed to building a more sustainable future. The most recent initiative comes directly from Brazil, through an electric motorcycle rental service which will help the planet reduce its CO2 emissions by 20 tonnes per year.
Going to work, a medical appointment, shopping, etc. Most of our daily activities involve moving from one place to another; which is a major contributor to climate change.
According to data from the European Environment Agency, more than 70% of the greenhouse gas emissions from transport are from cars, vans, lorries and buses. Therefore, in order to mitigate the devastating effect this has on the planet, we must commit to mobility that is more environmentally friendly; focusing in particular on large cities, where most emissions occur.

To this end, Santander Brazil is sponsoring a pioneer project in the city of São Paulo. Through this project, both customers and non-customers will be able to move around the city using one of the 50 scooters available to them. This could lead to a drop in emissions of about 20 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. There would also be a reduction in noise pollution, as electric vehicles are quieter than conventional vehicles.
“Santander has increasingly focused on projects that aim to improve life in large urban areas. This is the case with our alliance with shared electric motorcycles, which, in addition to helping mobility, as a means of transport that can be used by the general public, improve the quality of the air we breathe.”
They are very easy to use. Customers can request them from 06.00 to 23.00 using the Riba Motos app, provided that they are of legal age and have a category A driving licence. The app will unlock the vehicle and the helmet (wearing one is mandatory) once a credit card payment has been made.
In addition, the service includes accident insurance and technologies that enable vehicles (that do not exceed 50 km/h) to be traced in real time. Although its geographical availability is initially very limited (a region between the districts of Campo Belo, Vila Olímpia, Itaim Bibi, Jardim Paulistano, Jardim Paulista and Cerqueira César), our aim is to expand this and meet the mobility needs of more and more people, as well as to make progress regarding sustainability and building a more environmentally responsible entity.
