Madrid, 4 November 2024.
Banco Santander’s executive committee has today approved a group donation of €2 million to help customers and non-customers impacted by the floods, which have dealt a particularly devastating blow to the Valencia region and other municipalities in Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia. The bank has also decided to match the donations made by employees.
Moreover, thanks to the solidarity of citizens, and our customers and employees, the bank has already collected donations amounting to €10 million through its app in only five days to the account numbers provided to support NGOs working on the ground to assist the affected people and the emergency services and volunteers working to help them.
As with the pandemic and other emergencies, the bank is already working with several government institutions and business associations to coordinate a financial aid plan to mitigate the economic damage that individuals, entrepreneurs, the self-employed and businesses are suffering due to the losses caused by the floods, with the aim of helping them resume activity as soon as possible.
From the outset, the bank contacted customers in the affected areas to offer all available means to help them and swiftly mitigate any possible damages suffered.
It has also activated the insurance protocol for extraordinary weather events to assist those with home insurance. Though most of the claims caused by these floods are covered by the Insurance Compensation Consortium (outside the contractual scope of the home insurance policy), the bank has contacted them to facilitate the procedures with the Consortium, in addition to providing a 24-hour helpline (91 343 58 70) and communication via WhatsApp, mobile app, and digital alternatives for claim resolution.
For business products, Santander | MAPFRE (Multirisk Commerce & SMEs, Civil Liability and Cyberinsurance), the 24-hour helplines are: 900 81 08 55 and 91 836 61 69. It is also contacting affected farmers and ranchers to speed up agricultural insurance claims. The contact numbers for Caser-Agroseguro are 91 590 96 84 and 902 45 45 95.
Santander has also eliminated ATM fees in the province of Valencia for non-customers and will not charge its own customers for withdrawing cash from other entities.
Santander Getnet has launched a special plan to help affected businesses return to normal quickly. In severely damaged areas, the company will waive fixed point-of-sales (POS) terminal costs for two months (terminal maintenance, inactivity fees, or minimum billing and flat rate). Additionally, Santander has bolstered field and POS terminal stock teams to reinstall terminals as quickly as possible, where necessary. Customers can also continue to receive payments through means that do not require a terminal, such as payment via a link with Get Link & Pay or through social networks with Get Social Selling.
Over 15,000 customers have already benefited from these measures for ATMs and POS terminals in businesses.
With regards to car leasing, work is underway to replace damaged cars financed by the bank as soon as possible, and the stock has been expanded to offer customers who cannot use their vehicles, with the goal of having 1,000 cars available immediately.
