The Santander IE Tech4Law scholarships for law students or young legal professionals in nine countries will provide them with new digital skills and tools to boost their employability.

Applications may be submitted at www.becas-santander.com until 15th June.

Madrid, 30th April 2020.
Banco Santander, through Santander Universities, and IE Foundation (IE University's foundation) are providing 100 Santander IE Tech4Law scholarships for law students are in their last year or who have graduated in the past four years.

The scholarships are for youths in nine countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the United States, Spain, Mexico, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom) and aim to foster and develop their digital skills and legal tech knowledge as a way of boosting their employability.

The 100 candidates selected can take the 5-week Tech4Law high-impact online course. The programme is delivered completely online and will be taught exclusively in English, with the academic supervision of IE Law School, an IE University school and an international leader in legal training.

The training programme has been designed jointly by Banco Santander Legal Affairs and IE Law School, with backing from Santander Universities and IE Exponential Learning, to cover the real needs of companies in digital environments and in transformation.

Óscar García Maceiras, the global head of Legal Affairs at Banco Santander, underlines that “in a context where customers or consumers are used to finding solutions in one click, the work of lawyers cannot stay based on formulas that were around in the 19th or 20th century. The financial sector is a case in point and Banco Santander aims to help support a new generation of lawyers that know how to cope in this new environment. Through collaboration between IE and the bank areas of Legal Affairs and Universities, we are offering a full programme of training scholarships and internships to enhance the job prospects of students and young law graduates.

The digital transformation is revolutionising all sectors, and even more so during the lockdown. We are delighted to team up with Banco Santander to foster talent in the legal sector. At IE Law School, we train the best business lawyers in digital and legal skills and capabilities with a global perspective. The transformation of the legal sector and communities towards technology and digitalisation requires future lawyers to be ready to respond to that new reality. We share Banco Santander's vocation for training business law professionals in the digitalisation of the legal profession," said Soledad Atienza, the associate dean of IE Law School.

Students on this course will obtain a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding how the various technologies offer competitive advantages and new business models in the legal sector. They will also acquire a series of skills and tools for understanding the driving forces and the challenges of legal innovation in the digital world.

The programme's top 10 students will be entered into a selection process for job internships with Banco Santander's Legal Affairs, with the possibility of joining the team.

IE Foundation and IE Law School will also give a scholarship to the one of the best candidates in the programme to do a Master's degree in Legal Tech at IE University, meeting admission requirements and the criteria of the IE Foundation's scholarships committee. This cutting-edge programme, taught in person and online and lasting ten months, includes time in Madrid, Silicon Valley and Israel.

The application period is now open and candidates can apply until 15 June 2020 at www.becas-santander.com
